Cecilia TomniCecilia is an Argentinean professional Bellydancer instructor and choreographer living in Germany since 2013. Cecilias’ fascination for Egyptian culture started very early in her life. She used to spend hours in front of TV watching documentaries of Middle Eastern history and she once dreamed of becoming an Archeologist. As a child, she always showed to have a talent for dancing. She liked to imitate steps from music clips of all kind of styles and loved dancing with her friends all type of Latin American rhythms such as Salsa, Cumbia, Lambada, Axe and Samba.
At the age of 14 she discovered the Art of Bellydance, after she saw her first instructor, Gabriela Drasal (Arabian Dance School Certificate Teacher) performing at a party. She then decided to start taking Bellydance lessons at her school and she became one of the teachers that have most influenced Cecilia’s style and the person that introduced her to the Bellydance World. Cecilia performed in several shows as part of her Ballet, and she continued to be her student for more than 5 years.
As her passion for this dance was increasing every day, at the age of 18 she decided to become a professional dancer. She started to attend lessons at Samir Abut´s Belly Dance School (Ahlan Wa Salhan Master Teacher), a very renowned Argentinian male Bellydancer. She studied in his Dance School for 3 years, when she was introduced by Gabriela to Amir Thaleb (Ahlan Wa Salhan Master Teacher). She started to study in his Arabian Dance School in 2005, and that is where she learned all the secrets of this marvelous dance, from the most traditional to the modern contemporary styles. Meanwhile, she attended lessons with Yamil Annum, one of the exponents of the famous Argentinian style, and with Princess Maiada, with whom Cecilia learned the pure Egyptian Style.
In 2010 Cecilia got the teacher certification from Amir Thaleb’s Arabian Dance School (ADS). She then continued to perfection herself with Jonathan Palermo (ADSCT, Ahlan Wa Salhan Master Teacher) for several years untill moving to Germany.

Shaabi WorkshopShaabi (meaning of the people) is the music of the working class in Egypt and the lyrics of shaabi songs are usually about politics, personal life and love. Shaabi is often danced in Egyptian nightclubs, like our western pop music is danced socially in the west. Dancewise, Egyptian Shaabi style is playful and flirtatious, with a strong folkloric influence. Shaabi style is not elegant but funky. The movements are relatively simple but full of feeling, and in this workshop we will be dancing a modern Shaabi song.
